Though, if the Rift and memory loss were connected, since he's been close to the Rift all his life, I think we'd expect to see more wide-spread memory-loss... *considers further* Rift immunity... could be...

And I am really trying not to think about anything I would have expected you to do with it. I'm just... going to stick with being happy that you found it.

*moves his hand from Jack's for a moment and pats Ianto's chest, cuddling closer*
Oh, yeah, there are some similarities between human and Time Lord DNA... Just lots of differences, too. The Rassilon Imprimatur is sorta... added in... for all Time Lords. *shrugs a bit, reaches back for Jack's hand* It might mesh with your DNA... Probably only one way to find out. Not much sense in trying it now though...

"Yeah, I haven't seen it doing anything to anyone unless they've been through it." And, of course, he's been around the Rift quite a long time to observe that.

"You know me very well, oh yeah."

He considers a bit, and reaches for the Doctor's hand as the Doctor's reaching for his, ending up threading their fingers together comfortably. "I'm up for experimenting, maybe. I know that my body does some things just-- quicker, or something. Like coagulating blood and flushing toxins, health type things, go quicker than nor-- other humans do. I still stay affected, bruises and things. But then if I die, it seems to trigger that reset thing, the cells going back to default, not the normal kind of healing accelerated. Like nothing ever happened."

The Rift is rather self-contained like that... Has anybody else who's come through the Rift had memory issues?

*glances up, noticing Ianto's grin, smiles in return*

Yes, I know, Jack... Loyal, brave, and brilliant. *smirks a bit, tone serious* And regardless of whatever you might have had in mind for my hand, I can't think of a better person to be keeping track of it.

*flexes his fingers slightly, squeezing Jack's hand*

It's a bit complicated... We can't turn Jack into a Time Lord, if that's what you're asking, Ianto... But we could try a few experiments... when you're closer to having a TARDIS...

He looks back at Ianto and sighs. "We have cases of... irreparable mental damage, not sure how much is because of the Rift itself or experiences wherever they've ended up before they appeared in Cardiff. Traumatized, injured, amnesiac, varies."

He flushes a bit with appreciation of the Doctor's and Ianto's compliments and squeezes the Doctor's hand tighter as he presses in closer against Ianto. "Thank you."

"I'm too much of an oddity in time to be turned into a Time Lord, or it's not something you can do to a human at all?"

It isn't that they meant to travel through it, just caught caught in a spike." He's feeling quite warm and comfortable with this, chasing back a lot of the horror. "Mmm. Good." They just sort-of get swept up in it? curls up against Ianto's side, smiles, snuggling close nods, looking a bit distant Yes... difficult to say what it would do because you're an impossible thing. He feels quite warm and happy, having Jack and the Doctor here like this, able to make both of them feel better.

"Well, maybe not in the physical sense, like two hearts and things like that. But what you're talking about, the Rassilon thing, sounds like normal DNA mutations. And those are caused in part by exposure to radiation. And who's to say that that's not the result of the kind of radiation from time travel or rift exposure? We know it's there, and we can measure if people have been exposed to it, but we don't know what it does."

Not even in the die-come-back way, but just-- nothing happening. Don't know why I'd be radiation resistant, maybe something about my cells not taking permanent damage." Oh, 1869... *somewhat fondly* Little, well, medium-sized, well... fairly large problem with the Gelth... And the rift. *pauses, muses* I wonder if I could have met Dickens otherwise...

That Rassilon thing... *grin widens, repeating the phrase, then softens* Maybe it was a mutation, clear back when he began... *distant* Such a long, long time ago. *nods* But radiation from time travel or the rift... *nods again* ...could have an effect on people. *brow furrows a bit* Radiation doesn't really effect me either, come to think of it. *looks to Jack* Maybe it's some sort-of resistance you've built up from exposure?

He considers some, doing plenty of snuggling and hand-squeezing in the process. "Yeah, I don't think it's a resistance. Lots of different kinds of radiation, after all. One wouldn't carry on to others, and... well, it's not a resistance thing, yeah. When we were at the end of the universe, there was this radiation chamber that vaporized another guy. It didn't do a thing to me."

Oh, I'm sure there was some notice by the locals... Aliens animating corpses and all. Anyway, pretty much... *sighs* ...the Gelth, their home was destroyed in the Time War. My fault. They said they needed help and I offered. *quietly* But they had lied. There were so many more of them, all rushing into the world through the rift at once. One girl, Gwyneth, she stopped them. *quietly* Gwyneth, and Rose... *smile flashes cross his face* Rose was there. *forced cheeriness* Her second trip.

It would be interesting to see if there was a point at which Time Lords had been affected by radiation from time travel...

He can pick up on how the Doctor would rather not talk about it after all, and how Ianto wants to get the Doctor off brooding thoughts, so he's fine with going along with that. "Lots of adventures. I almost got lobotomized once." Although bringing up more that happened with Rose, well...

"Could be an interesting trip, yeah. And I did say that. Where... um. Things. Him. Anyway, radiation didn't affect me. Electricity sure zaps me, though. I don't get it."

That's what I thought, lots of dead people, borrowing a couple shouldn't hurt... But it wasn't just a couple then. And Rose disagreed. *brow furrowed, expression pained* Always an adventure...

"Hmmm...? Oh, there was that time, too! So almost got lobotomized twice. Bunches of people were mysteriously dying, and I managed to turn symptomatic, too, and the Doctor needed to figure out what was going on. They had a taboo against autopsies and otherwise examining the dead, though, so to them, it did hurt to go 'borrowing' like that even to try to save everyone." He falls quiet as Ianto comforts the Doctor, though he offers another hand squeeze as well.

"Yeah. It was. Can we... not talk about it? That's when--" He waves his hand a bit. "TARDIS trying to run from me, him as a human... Talk about something, um, sunnier?"

He snuggles closer against the Doctor, sensing that he still needs comforting. "She seems like a very caring person. She would have been worried." He grins softly, a bit of amusement in his tone now. "Jack always does well with getting into trouble."

Sunnier, hmmm. "So, Doctor, I've heard rumours that somewhere in the universe, there are entire beaches made of black diamonds, something to do with volcanic pressures that formed the islands. Ever seen anything like that?"

Yeah, I get into trouble, all right, but that's a new one, Union Jack t-shirt in the Blitz? I haven't done that one. Naked where I shouldn't be, though..."

That sounds much better than thinking about the end of the universe. He scoots in closer against Ianto as well.

Beaches of black diamonds? Really? *shakes his head* No... haven't seen anything like that. *small smile forms* Though there is one place where I'd like to visit -- a planet called Midnight. It has a whole waterfall of sapphires. *quieter* I think that would be quite the place to see.
